Fort Ross
The old Russian Fort
north of San Francisco.

The Russians had build an outpost in Northern California in 1812 known as Fort Ross and the first Orthodox church in the continental United States was build at Fort Ross. Although the outpost was closed in 1841, the San Francisco area remains a magnet for Russian immigrants. In 1867 the Russians in San Francisco established Holy Trinity Church now known as Holy Trinity Cathedral.

Fort Ross now remains a very important California Historical State Park representing Russia's culture which greatly and richly influenced both the history and life style of the Golden State of California and the City of San Francisco. And the Fort Ross Club in Irkutsk works very hard in developing and maintaining this wonderful bond between the people of California and the people of Russia.
